◎Understanding Lightning: The Super Voltage in Nature
Lightning and thunder are very common weather phenomena in nature. On average, there are over 310,000 lightning and thunder incidents on Earth every year. It usually occurs in summer when there are more thunderstorms.
◎The generation of lightning: When dust, ice crystals and other substances in the air roll and move in the clouds, through some complex processes, these substances respectively carry positive and negative charges. Protrusions on the ground, metals, etc. will be induced to generate positive charges. As the electric field gradually strengthens, the thunderstorm cloud forms a downward leader, and the objects on the electric surface form an upward reflux. When two meets, a discharge to the ground occurs, this can easily cause lightning disasters.

◎The hazards of lightning
Lightning disaster is one of the ten most serious natural disasters announced by the United Nations International Decade for Disaster Reduction. Statistics from 2008 shows that the losses caused by lightning have risen to the third place among natural disasters. According to statistics from the China Meteorological Administration, on average, over 3,000 people are injured or killed by lightning strikes in China each year, and the direct economic loss exceeds 5 billion Yuan.
